Comparing the Benefits of Invisalign Against Those of Braces and Which Patients May Need Alternative Options

Top Benefits Of Going To Invisalign Dentist in North York ON Area

When looking at orthodontic options to straighten your teeth, braces were about the only option available. Thanks to the constant evolution of dental technologies, clear aligners have become a very popular option. The leading clear aligner treatment system offered by dentists today is the Invisalign treatment system. If you are looking for a dentist in North York, Ontario, who provides Invisalign to patients, look no further than Dr. Reza N. Roodsar at Respond Dental.

Clear aligners have become incredibly popular with patients worldwide because they are discreet and comfortable, and there are no dietary restrictions. But, as with any treatment, there are some scenarios when Invisalign may not be the best solution for you. In considering whether braces or Invisalign may be better, it is important to understand what each option offers.

Braces vs. Invisalign

Both treatments were originally designed to help straighten patients’ teeth. Before 2000, braces were the predominant orthodontic option chosen for this purpose. Invisalign came along in 2000 and set the world on fire with the benefits it offered. Let us look at both.

Braces consist of metal wires and brackets that are glued to the teeth’s surface. Along with rubber bands, the wires are used to tie the brackets together. Through the tightening of these wires and the use of rubber bands, teeth are slowly straightened and aligned. Braces are noticeable, and you will not be able to hide them.

Invisalign utilizes a series of clear aligner trays which fit comfortably over your teeth. These trays are made of smooth and comfortable plastic, which can be removed at any time. You will need to wear them around 22 hours a day for the best results. Because they are clear plastic, they are easier to hide, and nobody needs to know you are wearing them.

When Will Invisalign Not Work For You

There are some situations where Invisalign may not be the ideal treatment for you. This includes patients with:

  • Bridgework
  • A need to rotate the premolars or canines
  • Bite issues in the back teeth
  • A need to move teeth vertically
  • A lack of discipline, making it unable to keep the trays in for 22 hours a day consistently.
