Oral Cancer Examination in North York ON Area

In addition to improving the health and beauty of your teeth, your North York, Ontario dentist also provides a valuable healthcare service in the form of oral cancer screening. Dr. Reza N. Roodsar from Respond Dental in North York, Ontario, can perform an oral cancer examination during a routine checkup. Caught early enough, oral cancer can be treated. An oral cancer screening could be the catalyst that saves you from this deadly disease.

Are Oral Cancer Exams Really Necessary?

Like any health test, oral cancer screenings are designed to detect early warning signs of a life-threatening disease. Early detection enables you to get treatment that can lead to recovery. Many dentists take advantage of routine dental exams to screen their patients for oral cancer as it only takes several minutes.

During an oral cancer examination, Dr. Reza N. Roodsar will examine your face, neck, mouth and jaw for signs of sores, lesions, lumps, discolourations or other irregularities. Samples of abnormal tissues will be sent to a lab for testing. We’ll also inquire if you’ve experienced abnormal symptoms which could be attributed to oral cancer, such as:

  • Deteriorated soft tissue
  • Red or white patches inside your mouth
  • Trouble chewing or swallowing for no apparent reason
  • Sores that haven’t healed after two weeks
  • Persistent bleeding
  • Abnormal changes in your voice
  • Unusual weight loss

Our oral cancer screening service is especially important for people who have a family history of cancer, as they have a greater risk of developing this disease. We recommend our patients undergo an oral cancer screening at least once annually.

Importance of Oral Cancer Screening

Through oral cancer screening, your North York, Ontario, dentist can identify cancerous or precancerous sores, lesions or tissue early before the disease has a chance to spread to other parts of your body. Early detection and treatment increase your chances of being cured. Once the disease has metastasized, it can be much harder to treat and treatment may not be as successful.

To schedule a routine dental exam that includes oral cancer screening services, contact Respond Dental in North York, ON, at (416) 318-7465.
